九十年代中期，正是独立流行（indiepop）在瑞典兴旺发展的时候，也正是kent成为最著名的瑞典乐队的时期。 kent成立于1990年，主唱及作曲者joakim berg和主音吉他手sami sirvio&nb sp;在学校组了一个乐队，并很快加入了鼓手markus mustonen，贝司手 martin&nb sp;skold和另一吉他手martin roos。他们曾换过不少名字，比如havsanglar ( 即seaangels)，最终决定用一个瑞典男性名字kent。他们录了一些小样后签约bmg。1994年他们发表了第一张单曲 "nar dert blaser pa manen"，但没引起人们注意。 1995年4月，他们的同名处女专集《kent》上市，但销量并不好。在他们1995年的演出后，martin ro os离开了kent。于是他们找来他们的老朋友harri manty。一年后，他们的第二张专集《verklige n》发表了，kent的音乐事业出现了转机。 2000年kent带来一张与众不同的专集《hagnesta hill》--他们的第4张专集。他们想摆脱radi ohead的影子，加入了一些鼓点很强的曲式。但自己还是最喜欢里面的慢歌。在2000年他们还发表了一张名为b-sidor& nbsp;95-00的传记，是《kent》,《 verkligen》,《isola》,《hagnesta hill》这四张专集的b-sides作品。两年后发行的《vapen & nbsp;ammunition》，单在scandinavia就卖出了500000 张，kent的事业达到了高峰。
