不喜本身西部血统、儿时住在地球最下方之米国东岸的Donell Jones，父亲是福音歌手的他，也深爱穿着与老爸同样绅士般的服装，但成就Donell Jones为一歌手的关键点在于，自小历经的帮派血腥文化使他立定了远离街头的志向；致力于词曲创作的Donell，当时碰到了“Untouchables Entertainment”的Edward ”Eddie F” Ferrell(隶属八○～九○年代流行饶舌团体Heavy D & the Boyz)，两人便携手走进了大厂“LaFace”，Jones在其中的处女作，即是新世代美声偶像Usher的1994年冠军单曲“Think Of You”，这首歌的一炮而红使“LaFace”两大龙头Babyface 及L.A. Reid相当满意，于是便企划替Donell Jones发行个人1996年首张大碟《My Heart》

在Donell Jones成功发行个人1996年首张大碟《My Heart》后，成绩OK的《My Heart》因为Donell的下一波猛盘《Where I Wanna Be》(1999年)再次热卖，不仅同名细碟“Where I Wanna Be”登上“2000 Billboard HOT 100 Singles”，“U Know What's Up”更是盘踞在“Billboard R&B Single Charts”的冠军长达八周之久。

2002年，未发行先轰动的2002全新力作《Life Goes On》上榜第一周，已抢下“Billboard Top 100 Albums”的第三名和“Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums”的亚军！行事浪漫的Donell Jones这次不借任何好友之力，与自己心中的神Teddy Pendergrass(七○～九○年代Quiet Storm/Urban宗师)一样，他呈现的是全然自己的Soulful/Jazzy R&B，

同名单曲“Life Goes On”唱出失恋的内心绞痛，悲情之慢板道着：“See but I've come realize that life goes on...”；乐迷期待的Jazzy Piano则浮在“Do U Wanna”上面，低沈的bassline佐以飙高假音的vocal，以抒情吉他chords带起煽动的情热乐章；当然专辑内不乏轻快：电味略重的“Freakin' U”、阳光耀眼的“You Know That I Love You”和积极的“Gotta Get Her”，最让听觉得到满足感的，则非黄金单曲“Where I Wanna Be”的第二乐章“Where You Are(Is Where I Wanna Be)”莫属了。
